Just two pieces of news that appeared recently, concerning Kenya (where my parents-in-law live). Taken together they paint a surprising picture.

While in the UK we've been heartily congratulating ourselves on banning smoking in public buildings, back in June Kenya's cities went smoke-free - not just in public buildings but in all public spaces.

And while in the UK we still haven't managed to find a way to wean ourselves off plastic bags (although Ireland has), in Kenya and Uganda they have banned certain types of them.
