Designing a UI for both touchscreen and mouse makes total sense in this day and age. Our 4 year old daughter keeps touching the TV and my laptop screen simply because all the other screens she encounters (our phones and her nursery computers) are touch enabled and she expects it to work. Together with the keyboard cleverness in the Windows 7/8 start menu (just type the first few letters of the application name) it looks like Microsoft are making some correct decisions here.
