Wooden skewers and Loom Bands™ are great for construction! Here are a couple of negatively curved (saddle-shaped) surfaces - a hyperboloid from an awesome video: http://youtu.be/ECT8SPWzliE, and a hyperbolic paraboloid based on a suggestion of +Paul Fisher​, to make a surface that can be 'popped' from one shape to another. Indeed it can, Paul, you were right.

Thanks I wanted something like this but didn't know it.
Meaning I was trying to construct something similar but never had the patience to work out the particulars, because of my being easily distracted.
