A lot of people don't understand why the shirt was a problem. (Or the related issues around GamerGate for that matter.) There's a beautiful comment by +Erin Brodwin​​ here (in bold) that sums the whole sorry thing up:

[Matt] responded, "The people I work with don't judge me by my looks but only by the work I have done and can do. Simple."

If only women could hope to someday be judged that way too.

I believe that the word "shitstorm" was invented exactly for debacles like this. (meaning, incl. gamergate)

I guess one good thing about the shitstorm is that it is now clear how many people hold sexist attitudes. At least it's out in the open. No-one can be in any doubt how far we have to go to reach gender equality.
