Just spent a couple of hours tracking down a Jekyll issue where having a blog post with the single word title ‘yes’ causes a problem because it gets evaluated as a boolean! https://timhutton.github.io/2019/02/02/yes_is_not_allowed.html

Apologies for abandoning this discussion. You deserve a response. I believe that gross inequality is very wrong and here’s why. 1/6

I guess I’ve seen a lot of extreme inequality, in India and Kenya, and I’ve seen its effect up close. When you can afford to bribe a land-registry official with a years salary, why wouldn’t you, when everyone else is doing it, and stealing your business? 2/6

On an economic level the same thing applies - look at how much money is spent on corporate ‘donations’ to political parties, in the US but also here. And nobody suggests this is wasted money. 3/6

In both cases, decisions are made that only benefit the existing vested interests and so the economy suffers. 4/6

A second point is that gross inequality makes it impossible to achieve a meritocracy. There can be no equality of opportunity when education levels vary greatly, which means that talent will be wasted. The economy suffers. 5/6

And on a macro level there is evidence that we’d get more economic growth if the flow of money was more balanced. 6/6 https://mystudentvoices.com/steering-the-economy-toward-growth-8f208a8b8a7b
