Scroll bars are broken everywhere. Sometimes they disappear when the mouse isn’t on them, ruining their affordance. Sometimes they are super slim in a ‘cool’ designer look, so they are hard to click on. Sometimes they move around on their own because of infinite scroll.

Wed Jul 08 11:08:40 +0000 2020

Replying to @tim_hutton

Sometimes they don’t have up and down buttons, because some designer thought they weren’t needed, giving no way to page up and down without a) finding a safe place on the screen to click to give the right pane focus, and b) hoping that page up/down works.

Sometimes clicking in the gutters pages up/down, but in other apps it jumps the scroll. etc. etc.

How have fundamental UI principles just been ignored?

Should be possible to get pretty close by tweaking the parameters of this model.

wrote a fantastic piece about it here: https://softologyblog.wordpress.com/2020/03/29/dendritic-crystal-growth

There’s also an implementation in Ready.

It would be good to make a version where the crystals can grow at different angles.

For debugging, maybe just try making a parameter map - insert into simulationFrag.glsl:

k = 0.03+0.04v_uvs[0].x; f = 0.1v_uvs[0].y;

(I think. How do I build your code to try it?)

The clamp worries me - it shouldn’t be needed.
